Sable’s
World

She
is getting her shoes on. I nudge
and push on her hands to tell her to take her with me.
She is kind of slow so I have to really, really let her know I want to go
along. She is putting my seat
belt halter on. She finally gets
it. She’s taking me along.
I
sit in the front seat. Where are we
going? Oh, good, we are going to
the store. I run down the hall to
get to the back door. She is
especially slow today. Oh, good,
she made it to the door. She
unlocks it and I push past her to make sure all is well in the store.
Oh good, some good garbage to get into later.
I
don’t know what she does without me. I
greet the customers. They pet me.
I even let them rub my stomach.
I play with the kids that come in. I
bark at some of the people. It is
exhausting work.
She
makes me wear a costume on Halloween, Christmas and my birthday.
I do it because it makes her happy.
She pets me all the time. I
like her, but like I said before, she is slow.
I have to bang my water dish several times before she fills it up.
I have to tell her many times before she takes me to the park for a potty
break.
I
have special friends in town. Shelly
and Sue give me scraps of meat and treats at the back door of Perk Up.
Carol and friends give me treats at AAA Pest Control.
The women at the bank give me treats.
Sometimes I have to remind them to give me a treat.
I sit and look at them intently then they finally remember.
It
is hard work being a store dog. I
have to sleep on the couch a lot to build up my energy for the next customer.
I just wish humans were faster and smarter so my work would be easier.
I hope you will come in to see
